Use your research to support your explanations by providing credible and scholarly sources.   NURS 6531-Primary Care of Adults Across the Lifespan Week 1: Initial Discussion   My strengths are that I am a high achiever. My challengers are that I am a little nervous and want to be absolutely sure that all the decisions I make for my patients are the correct ones. My career goal RN-APRN training is expected to include all aspects of the transitional experiences that the APRN encounters during clinical supervision, the various stages of professional growth, and their emotional well-being throughout the process (Arrowsmith et al., 2016). APRN training should embrace PCP practice in various healthcare settings; yet, despite the research findings that the effectiveness of APRNs is comparable to physicians, concern remains about the performance of APRNs with limited nursing experience before transitioning to an APRN (Hennessy, 2017). I am confident by the end of the Family Practitioner Program I will have received all the training to safely and effectively practice as an APRN. APRN (aka NP): According to AANP (2019), APRNs are RNs who are educated at a graduate degree level to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and order diagnostic investigations and medications for patients. Primary care: According to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) (n.d.), primary care is the initial and ongoing care provided by primary care healthcare providers for clients. Per AAFP (n.d.), primary care may be “health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, counseling, patient education, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions” (p. 1). I live in Longview Texas, a small east Texas town. My ultimate goal and objective is to serve the community in which I live. Many people who live in my community do not have health insurance and will not go to the local ER for care. There are not many local clinics in my area to provide underprivileged low- or no-income patients. I can open my own clinic, provide care to patients at a price they can afford. Understandably, healthcare providers’ training, transition, and safe practices remain paramount to any nation’s health. Millions of people live in areas with inadequate access to health care due to physicians’ shortage (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2019). APRNs serve more in the rural and underserved communities, providing access to healthcare for all, especially the underserved, thereby saving the public from disease, disability, death, and healthcare costs (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2019).
