Write a brief paper addressing the following items: Identify the characteristics of the transition that you have observed, as defined in transitions theory. Analyze the changes that you are experiencing because of the transition. Analyze personal, community, and societal conditions that may have influenced the transition that you are experiencing (list influences such as cultural beliefs and attitudes, socioeconomic status, and level of preparation that have affected your approach to the transition). Review your responses to the transition and consider the outcome of the personal transition in the first question. What would facilitate successful outcomes to the transition? Transitions Theory Transitions theory addresses the human experiences, responses, and the impact of transitions on individuals’ wellbeing. The transitions framework nursing enables individuals to undergo healthy transitions, particularly mastering behaviors, emotions, indicators, and symbols related to the new role and identity, to promote healthy outcomes (Yayla, 2019). The concepts of transitions theory include types and patterns of transitions, elements of transition experiences, conditions of transition, process indicators, outcome indicators, and nursing interventions. This paper seeks to describe my transition, including characteristics of the transition, changes experienced, and conditions influencing the transition. Observed Characteristics of Transition One of my current transitions is situational and touches on becoming an adult, where I am transitioning from living with my parents to living alone. Characteristics of the transition process include awareness, engagement, time span, change and difference, and critical points and milestones (Lindmark et al., 2019). Some of the characteristics of transition that I have identified in my transition include awareness, engagement, and time span. Awareness refers to the perception, knowledge, and acknowledgment of a transition experience (Lindmark et al., 2019). In my transition, I am well–versed in moving out and living alone and the things I need to do for successful adulating such as taking responsibility. I have acknowledged that I will be making decisions independently and that I will be entirely responsible for my actions. Besides, I am aware of the emotional, social, and financial changes of living independently. Engagement is the level to which an individual shows involvement in the transition process. The degree of awareness is thought to impact the degree of engagement since engagement may not occur without awareness (Munck et al., 2018). My awareness of the 3 changes involved in moving out has made me engage more in the transition process, including learning how to manage my finances, handle stress, and keep strong social interactions. I have identified a time span in my transition where in the beginning, I was unstable and felt confused and distressed. The anticipation of moving out and changes made me anxious. However, I have gradually moved to a period of stability whereby I have confidence in my capacity to make independent decisions. Changes I am Experiencing Because of the Transition The changes I have experienced from the transition include personal, social, emotional, and financial changes. Personal changes include being more confident in my decisions and increased self–esteem and self–reliance (Hanna et al., 2018). When I identify a way to solve or overcome challenges and achieve my ambitions, my self–confidence and self–esteem increase greatly. Social changes include having fewer interactions with my parents and having a sense of disconnectedness from them. However, I have more social interactions with my friends since there is more interaction time. The transition has affected my emotional wellbeing since I feel less secure than in my parents’ house. Financial changes have been significant in the transition since my parent are no longer providing for my needs and living expenses (Hanna et al., 2018). However, I have acquired some financial management skills. I have found a way to budget my finances on the different expenditures, including rent, utilities, transport, groceries, medical expenses, and insurance policies. The Outcome of the Personal Transition A successful outcome to the transition would be facilitated by mastering crucial skills for living alone. The skills include financial management, stress–relieving, and housework skills (Hanna et al., 2018). Besides, acquiring behaviors required to manage the new situation and environments would ease the transition. For instance, being decisive, creative, confident, and situated would lead to a healthy transition. On the other hand, some factors may inhibit successful outcomes, including low self–esteem, lack of confidence, over–reliance on others in decision–making, lack of coping skills, inadequate preparation. Conclusion Transitions theory centers on the human experiences, responses, and the influence of transition on a person’s wellbeing. Nurses can use the theory to ensure a patient can effectively cope with the changes they undergo in health and environment and help them function to their maximum capacities.
